Get Involved
We all love Great East Lake, but keeping it special depends on each of us to do our part. GELIA is an all-volunteer organization, and we depend on the energy, creativity and participation of our Board, members and volunteers to carry out our mission of protecting the lake.
Whether it’s volunteering as a weed watcher or lake host, becoming a board member, promoting GELIA education and messaging on social media, interacting with local and state government, lending your financial support or just learning about the steps you, your neighbors and tenants can take to help protect the lake — there’s lots to do, and we need your help. So please, love our lake by getting involved!

Join the GELIA Board of Directors
GELIA’s effectiveness in helping to preserve this wonderful lake over the years has resulted from a combination of extraordinary member participation and the creativity and energy of its Board of Directors. GELIA is a dynamic organization that not only focuses on the immediate, daily needs of our lake (such as water quality, lake hosts, weed watchers, boating safety, loon preservation, the watershed survey, quality of life, Love Our Lake) but also advocates with local and state government and works in cooperation with other organizations (such as the Acton Wakefield Watershed Alliance, NH Lakes Association and the Loon Preservation Society) to address the health of our entire watershed and the environmental quality of our region.
We are constantly on the lookout for new candidates for our Board of Directors to help improve these programs and/or to replace members whose terms have expired.
At this time we are particularly looking for people who have the following experience or interests:
- Communications and writing
- Social media
- Bookkeeping/accounting
- Information technology
- General non-profit leadership and governance.
- Experience or willingness to engage with local or state government
- Environmental issues
- Fundraising
- Volunteer management
If you’re interested in joining the board, or know of someone who would, please let us know!
Please send an email to pres@greateastlake.org. Thank you for your continuing support of GELIA.
