The Wakefield Zoning Ordinance
Proposed Extensive Revisions

Voting Day
March 14, 2006

·        One of the major purposes of the Major Subdivision Moratorium we approved last year was to revise our Zoning Ordinance.

·        Many Public Hearings held throughout the summer, fall and winter:  Large, well attended meetings with a broad spectrum of views.  Everyone had ample opportunity to be heard.

·        New Format:  Clearer, easier, more user friendly

·        Existing Zoning Ordinance was written for small, stable town

·        Controls Growth:  We are growing, like it or not, so we must ensure it is the type of growth we want

·        Preserves Rural Character:  Green space, village settings, farms, low density housing

·        Preserves the Environment:  Groundwater, forests, soil erosion, surface water

·        Protects our Lakes:  Safety, shoreline erosion, and water quality

·        Enhances Business and Commercial:  New jobs, more shopping convenience, increased revenue to town without raising taxes, yet keeps Rt. 16 green and tree-lined

·        Encourages Elderly Housing:  Generates revenue for the town without requiring us to raise taxes to build new schools or classrooms

If you like Wakefield's rural character,
vote YES on Article 2
Article 2 on Town Ballot.
The following are exerpts taken from emails from Town Conservation Committee Member Denny Miller, and Pine River Pond President Jim Guiod. There are a number of billboard sign in Wakefield opposing the proposed zoning rules change (Article 2 on the Town Ballot). The negative billboard signs have caused a group of concerned citizen's to come together to support Article 2, by  taking out a 1/2 page ad in the Granite State News saying they support Article 2 and listing their names.  If you would be willing to lend your name (and business name, if you choose) to this ad, please call Rick Sager at 603 539-8188 and leave a message to that effect; or, email him at rsager@sagerandwunder.com
I understand that there is no cost to signing up for this half page ad to appear next week in the Granite State News. The deadline is Friday. The proposed ordinance changes in Article 2 will have a positive effect on the quality of life for lake residents and for the Town of Wakefield in general. Please consider adding your name to this list of concerned citizens.
