Nancy and Christopher Bancroft report that the current severe weather has resulted in the floating Island in Scribner's brook, anchored about 50 to 100 years ago by their ancestors, has been raised and broken free in the current high water and high winds. It has now moved a hundred feet or so east, and has swung across the brook, effectively blocking access to Scribner Brook from Great East Lake. They suspect that if the island is left as is when the water level drops, it will be permanently mired across the brook, blocking access from the river to the main lake, and conversely the access from the main lake into the brook habitat area. -- October 2005
