As of September 25, 2005 the two Second Basin chick are thriving and can be seen fishing with their parents in the basins, the narrows and the  north shore area.
As of August 5th, the two chicks in the second basin were about 3/4 the size of their parents, and still depending on them for food.
On Saturday, July 2nd. Observers reported an adult loon attacked and killed the two loon chicks born in the Scribner River this spring.  Their bodies were retrieved by the Loon Preservation Committee and they will undergo a necropsy at Tufts. We don't know if something happened to one or more of their parents, allowing a rogue loon to kill them, but it was very disturbing news for all who enjoy watching the loons on the Great East Lake.
If you would like to report any loon behavior you have seen, or update me on the condition of any of the loons, please email me at webmaster@greateastlake.org
